Maid of Honor- The Announcement
by RogerGirl
Nick packed up the last of his things and said goodbye to his friends. He was now 21 and had graduated college a couple weeks before. He was heading back home to Sutter's Valley to spend some time with his parents and sister. His friends and family from Sutter's Valley had come to Los Angeles to attend his graduation from UCLA, but he had stayed in L.A. a couple more weeks to watch the Clippers reach their first ever NBA Finals. One of his friends that he grew up with in L.A. before moving to Sutter's Valley had gotten tickets through his dad who had connections to the team. While Nick hadn't been into team sports when he was younger, after Swap Week he began to get more into basketball and football, particularly the Lakers and the Clippers. The Lakers, who had picked up Dwight Howard and Deron Williams a couple seasons earlier, and the Clippers had both made it to the Western Conference Finals this season, but the Clippers narrowly defeated the Lakers 4 games to 3. In the Finals, the Clippers took the series to 7 games, but lost in game 7 to the Chicago Bulls. Despite the Clippers losing, Nick was glad to have spent a couple more weeks with his L.A. friends before they all moved to different places and started working. Nick had been working as a photographer throughout college and was deciding what career steps he wanted to take next.
As he drove home, Nick thought of all his experiences in college. He was still surfing and skating, so his hair was still long and he still had a nice tan. He had had a few girlfriends in college, but was currently single. His last relationship ended a few months ago, but he wasn't in any hurry to start a serious relationship right now. His sister, who had graduated a couple years before him, was finishing her Master's degree. She and Mike, who were still together, had both studied business and accounting in college and had decided to improve their career goals by earning their Master's degrees. Nick's parents were doing better financially and operating their clothing store in Sutter's Valley. After losing their store in L.A., they continued the business online while they saved money to open a new store in town. With help from Uncle Steve, they were finally able to open their store and had recently rented a house next door to the Baileys. Jensen Bailey had gone to NYU and was working in New York so he wouldn't be home for the summer. Brandon, however, had just graduated high school and would be in town for a few weeks before going with his friends on a trip to Europe for the summer. Most of Nick's other friends were in town, including Marcus, who had just graduated from Stanford. He had recently told Nick that he was gay and had started performing in drag. Although he had come out to his parents when he was 16, he had kept it a secret from everyone else.
After driving for nearly half the day, including a few stops for lunch and to rest, Nick reached the freeway exit for Sutter's Valley. As he drove to his parents' house, Nick noticed the town had grown a bit since he had left for college. A few new shopping centers and a new housing development had been built on areas that had previously been empty fields. Nick reached his parents' new house and pulled into the driveway. His parents weren't home from work yet, so he decided to visit Brandon. Brandon was in his garage working on his skateboard when he saw Nick pull into the driveway. Nick got out of his car, which he had bought used through the money he saved as a photographer, and walked over to Brandon. Brandon was now 18 and 5'8". His hair was still long, but he had cut it recently after becoming Brandi for his last Swap Week.
"Hey man," Brandon said, "how's it going?"
"Pretty good," Nick said, "finished college, visiting the family for a few weeks. How about you?"
"I'm good," Brandon answered as he got them each a soda from the fridge in the garage, "finished high school. Heading to Europe in a few weeks."
"Nice," Nick said opening his soda.
"Oh hey," Brandon said grabbing his laptop, "check this out."
"Wow," Nick said looking at the screen.
On the screen was Brandon's Swap Week Facebook page for Brandi. While Nick remembered Brandi as being a cute, but somewhat shy 14 year old girl in Brandi's first Swap Week, the senior year Brandi was a lot different. She had grown into a sexy 18 year old woman with an amazing body, nice tan skin, and gorgeous face. As Nick looked through the photos and videos, he couldn't help but get a little turned on by the sexy poses and revealing outfits she was wearing. Nick paused and felt a bit embarrassed remembering that Brandi was really Brandon. Brandon laughed when saw Nick's face.
"Now you know how I felt when I saw you as Nicole for the first time," Brandon said laughing, "I have to admit I do make a pretty hot chick."
They both laughed as Brandon put the laptop away. They drank their sodas and talked for a while about school, girls, work, and the summer. After they had talked for a while, Nick noticed his parents' car coming down the street so he said goodbye to Brandon and went back to his car. Nick's parents had moved most of his stuff to the house, but he had a few things in his car that he needed for his last couple weeks in L.A. His parents pulled into the driveway next to him as he got his suitcase and a couple boxes out of his car. Nick's parents got out of the car and hugged him. Nick's dad helped him carry one of the boxes and they went inside. After putting his stuff in his room, Nick took a quick shower and changed, then went downstairs to see his parents.
"So how does it feel being a college graduate son?" his father asked.
"Feels strange," Nick said, "sort of strange getting used to a new lifestyle."
"Yeah," Nick's dad said, "it will take some getting used to being in the adult world. Take a month or so to relax though before jumping into work."
Nick's mom came downstairs and joined them in the living room. She had been talking on the phone to Megan, who was coming home with Mike for a few weeks.
"Your sister will be here in an hour or so," she said.
Nick talked with his parents for a while as they waited for Mike and Megan to arrive. As they talked, Nick told his parents of his career plans and his parents told him about their business. They decided to have Nick take photos for their catalogue and website while he was in town, since their previous photographer had moved back east. Nick had taken some photos for their website before and had posed for photos for the catalogue when he was Nicole during Swap Week, so he wouldn't need any training. After talking for a while, they heard Mike's car pull into the driveway. They went outside to greet them and help them bring Megan's bags into the house. Mike would be staying at his parents' house, so he left his bags in the car. After putting her stuff in her room, Megan came downstairs and joined Mike and her family in the living room. They talked for a while and told them they had made reservations for both their families at a restaurant for that night. They all got changed into nicer clothes and drove over in two cars to Mike's parents' house.
Mike Baxter's parents, John and Caroline, hadn't grown up in Sutter's Valley, but had moved their when he was born. Mike's dad was a lawyer while his mom was a teacher. The Baxters and the Schaffers had become quite close since Mike and Megan started dating. After Mike took his bags inside and they all greeted each other and changed, they all headed to the restaurant. When they got to the restaurant they were seated at their table and talked while they waited for Uncle Steve to arrive. After Uncle Steve arrived, they ordered their food and continued talking until Mike and Megan stood up to make an announcement.
"Hello everyone," Mike said nervously, "the reason we invited you all here tonight is because we have an announcement to make."
"Mike asked me to marry him!" Megan said smiling and showing her engagement ring that she had slipped on under the table.
Everyone began to clap and congratulated them. They went around the table as everyone hugged them and the waiter and the others sitting at tables nearby also congratulated them. After going around the table, Megan came over to Nick and asked him if she could talk to him privately. They walked to the lobby, which was empty, and sat down.
"I feel kind of strange asking you this," she said, "but I want you to be a part of my wedding. You can say no if you feel uncomfortable doing this, but I was hoping you would be my Maid of Honor. I know we've grown closer as brother and sister, but the closest we have ever been was when you became Nicole for Swap Week. I'm planning to invite my other friends to be my bridesmaids, but I hope you will consider being Nicole again for the wedding. If you don't think you want to do it, you can be one of Mike's groomsmen. I know it's a lot to ask so I'll let you think it over."
Nick sat in silence as he listened to his sister. He had only become Nicole once since his senior year of high school, and that was only for a day. Since then he hadn't grown much and still had a very feminine figure, although he had let his facial and body hair grow back since then. He wasn't sure if he wanted to go through the process of becoming a woman again, although he did enjoy how close he and his sister were when he was Nicole.
"I'll have to think about it," Nick said, "I'm not sure if I feel like becoming a woman again, but I will let you know."
Megan hugged him and told him to think it over. They went back to join the others at the table. After dinner Nick and his family said goodbye to Uncle Steve and the Baxters and drove home. Megan went upstairs to change and take a shower while Nick talked to his parents in the living room. He told them about his conversation with Megan and they told them the decision was up to him. He went upstairs and turned on his laptop. He thought back to the fun he had as Nicole during Swap Week and logged into his Nicole Schaffer profile. As he looked through the photos and videos of himself as Nicole he made his decision. He went downstairs where his sister and parents were talking in the living room.
"Megan," he said, "I thought it over and I have decided to be your Maid of Honor."
Megan smiled and hugged him as their parents smiled and watched. The wedding wouldn't be for at least a month, but Nick would have to become Nicole a week or two before that to help Megan with the dress fittings, bachelorette party, and bridal shower. For the next few weeks things were pretty much normal. Nick worked with his parents taking photos for their website and catalogue, hung out with friends, and looked for jobs and apartments in L.A. During that time Mike and Megan began making arrangements for the wedding and sending out invitations. One day Nick came home from hanging out with friends and saw his sister and her friends waiting in the living room. Amongst her friends was Amanda, a girl that Nick had a crush on growing up. The other two were friends Megan had made in college.
"Nick," Megan said as he greeted them all, "are you ready to begin your duties as my Maid of Honor?"
The other girls smiled. They all thought it was really cool that Nick was willing to do this for his sister. While Amanda had often ignored Nick growing up, she was now very nice to him. Nick smiled as he joined them all on the couch and helped them plan for the wedding. Later that night he would become Nicole and Megan and her friends would treat him just like one of the girls. From that night until he became Nick again after the wedding, Nicole and Megan would enjoy spending time together as sisters and as best friends.
